Reiki Principles

“If you must look back, do so forgivingly.
If you will look forward, do so prayerfully.
But the wisest course would be to be in the present in the present gratefully.”

The more I sit with these words, more I am reminded of the Reiki principles. This is a quote from Maya Angelou. I received it through Marianne Williamson.

With looking back, I am reminded of ‘Just for today, do not anger’.

With looking forward, I am reminded of ‘Just for today do not worry’.

Wisest course being to be in the present – brings me to ‘Just for today’. And ‘being in the present gratefully’ reminds me of ‘Show gratitude to every living thing’.

Such simple words, but touching deeply. Thank you Maya. Thank you Marianne.

Just like the Reiki Principles – seemingly simple yet having huge depth. Thank you Hawayo Takata for bringing us the Reiki Principles in English. Thank you Mikao Usui for adding them to the Reiki practice. Thank you to all my teachers, through whom I have received the Reiki Principles.

I continue to receive deeper layers every time I hear them and share them.

May we remember Maya Angelou’s words, when we are being tested with looking back, looking forward or with being in the present!

May the Reiki Principles continue to guide and support us as Reiki students.
