Inspired by a dream I woke up with few days ago, I found myself wanting to meditate with flowers on a walk recently.
After wondering for a moment how I could do this, I found my attention go to my senses to be present and receive this marvel of creation. I started with the sense of sight. Sometimes when possible I like to touch the flowers. Sometimes I feel drawn to smelling them, curious to see if they have a fragrance.

Then my awareness went to my body, I checked in to see how it felt in the body.

Bringing more curiosity to the experience – I asked what is it about this flower that is drawing my attention – is it the colour, the fragrance, or the magnificence of the spring blossoms being highlighted through the cluster, being in a collective, like a community. Would a single flower seem equally magnificent!

I felt some innate intelligence helps the flowers to blossom every season. It helps them awaken from being dormant. I can’t help wondering if this may be happening in us too! What if each spring something deeper has a chance to awaken in each one of us!
And then my attention went to the heart. I placed my hands there with gratitude for this experience. I remembered what Rumi expressed so eloquently in the poem – ‘What was said to the rose’. Here is the poem translated and read by Coleman Barks…
